We recently caught up with the MAGMA Ambassadors at Meon to discuss how their Ironwork Reinstatement System is transforming the industry.
Designed with zero harm, zero defect and zero carbon in mind, the system is setting a new benchmark in sustainable road reinstatement and maintenance.
WATCH: How to Tackle this Challenging Reinstatement using Innovative Cold-applied Solutions
To illustrate the system’s capabilities, the Ambassadors shared a recent success story with Wales & West, showcasing an ideal scenario for the MAGMA Ironwork system, delivering impressive results in a challenging ironworks reinstatement.
Tackling a Complex Ironwork Reinstatement Challenge
Wales & West, responsible for maintaining numerous ironwork assets, faced a deteriorating twin, double-cover ironworks. Situated less than 150mm apart, the covers presented a major challenge, as traditional compaction methods were not an option.
Previous maintenance efforts had failed, leaving the ironworks rattling and causing disruption for residents.
Previous ‘solutions’ were failing
The MAGMA Ironwork System
To address this, the MAGMA Ironwork Reinstatement System was used, combining:
- HardMaster W620 Bedding Mortar: A rapid-set, high strength bedding mortar that provides exceptional performance in wet conditions.
- HardMaster W621 Flowable Backfill Concrete: a high-performance mortar containing the benefits of resin-based materials with the ease of use of cementitious materials.
- PermaFyx L273 MMA Permanent Asphalt Repair: A durable, zero-compaction, cold-applied asphalt solution that provides permanent repairs in 30 minutes or less.
- UltraCrack L270 Sealant: An MMA overbanding solution which is designed for easy but highly durable cold-applied crack infill and overbanding.
The result? A defect-free, highly durable repair completed in just 90 minutes, saving 40% of the time compared to conventional approaches, minimising disruption for road users and local residents alike.
The team at Wales & West was impressed with the system’s performance. Reflecting on the project, they stated:
“We are really pleased with the way the system is built up; it has a lot of strength. From what we have seen, it looks fantastic. We will monitor it over time and see how it performs.”
This endorsement highlights the MAGMA system’s practical benefits and its ability to deliver long-term durability in even the most complex scenarios.
A peek during the process
Zero Harm, Zero Defect, Zero Carbon
When asked what sets the MAGMA system apart, the Ambassadors emphasised its alignment with the goal to ‘Make Lives Easier’:
- Zero Harm: Cold-applied materials eliminate the need for hot works and heavy equipment, improving safety for workers and the public.
- Zero Defect: High-strength innovative materials ensure durability and reliability, reducing the need for future repairs.
- Zero Carbon: The system supports sustainability, using cold-applied materials to minimise environmental impact.
“Our mission has always been about making lives easier,” said the MAGMA Ambassadors. “This system not only simplifies the process for contractors but also delivers lasting benefits for communities, ensuring safer and more reliable roads.”
