With experience in the traffic management industry spanning more than 10 years, James Smart’s move to Traffic Group Signals marks a defining moment in his career.

In the role of Control Systems Engineer, James’ primary focus is on designing new temporary traffic signalling schemes, using Traffic Group Signals’ ground-breaking software platform Signal Studio. Also integral to James’s new position is the autonomy to improve the current in-demand Metro system and enhance the already capable product.

Motivated by the extensive subject matter expertise and technical ambition exemplified by senior management at Traffic Group Signals (TGS), James is keen to convey exactly why his move to the business is such a pivotal moment in his career.

“I was immediately struck by the ethos of the business, there is such attention to detail and everyone who works at TGS displays an unwavering commitment to excellence in their work. For me, it was the freedom to innovate, be encouraged to break barriers and to be at the forefront of technological advances, benefitting not just the company, but the industry as a whole.

James continues: “I can now understand exactly why stage-based signalling stands as the ultimate weapon of choice when compared to conventional temporary signalling methods. With Signal Studio, we can be incredibly agile in designing and delivering complex schemes at short notice. We are able to give our customers the highest level of support with the back-office capabilities to monitor every scheme and be instantly responsive. We are notified of any issues in real-time and can immediately react and rectify the matter, sometimes even before the customer is aware that there is a problem.

“I feel proud to be part of the team at TGS and am excited for what the future holds as we endeavour to pioneer, influence and set the standard in the industry.”

Commenting on James’s appointment, Managing Director for The Traffic Group, Pete Hutchinson, says:

“James’s passion and commitment truly capture the spirit we encourage at Traffic Group Signals. His dedication to excellence and desire to push the boundaries of innovation align perfectly with our values. We’re excited to welcome him aboard as we strive to lead the way in technological advancement and shape the future of the traffic management industry.”
